Friends book - a lasting memory
Many of you surely still know the poetry album. A book with empty sides that you gave to your beloved neighbour's children, schoolmates and siblings to read a few nice words and thus became a precious memento. Actually the much more personal and creative version of the friend book. Little flower stickers were pasted in, sayings, paintings, drawings and poems were immortalised. Poetry albums, but also friendship books, become more beautiful and more individual with each newly written side. Even if the poetry album has disappeared into the last corner of the bookshelf or into some box in the attic, it is still worthwhile to dig it out again. For how nice it is to reminisce about old memories, to be surprised at who you had not thought of and later to be able to laugh about your own hairstyle or your friend's braces. Friends books are often based on well-known TV programmes or children's book series, and inspire children with drawings or sayings of their heroes and heroines. In this way, a distinction can also be made between more girly or more boyish friend books. If you know your child's favourite show or book series, you can be sure that children's eyes will light up. However, there are also some differences in content. Most friend books come with a pre-printed profile in which key data such as favourite food and date of birth can be entered or a photo of friends, parents and siblings can be pasted in. Others leave more room for creativity, for example, there are friend books that have a short profile on one side of the double page and space for creativity on the other side! Others are even more like the classic poetry albums and leave almost the entire double page blank so that everyone can design their own side. However, it is the many dear entries that give the book its character, making it unique and reflecting the special friendships. When buying a book, you should also make sure that it has a solid cover so that it can accompany the child for a lifetime.
In order to give more than just a simple friend book, it is nice to give a few particularly beautiful pens or stickers, for example, so that it is even more fun to fill in the first side. It's also a great idea to personalise the book by having the child's name printed on it or by putting a small name tag on it yourself. The poetry album as an alternative should not be ignored. Because here, too, you can give a very personalised version as a gift and give the children a few incentives for creativity with different sticker sheets. If you stick a small "instruction" on the first side, the children can orientate themselves on it and a personal piece of memory is created.
